Ripple Excola de Samba to perform at the Royal Albert Hall

It all began in a hall in Ripple Junior School in Barking. A group of children got together after school with Mr Marshall to form a samba band. Their dedication and talent was recognised and they were asked to perform at some local events. Their early audiences loved them. Their reputation spread. Next they were invited to perform in the foyers of the Purcell Rooms and Sadler's Wells theatre. Their confidence grew and they worked together on more challenging pieces until Mr Marshall felt that they were good enough to enter the Music for Youth competition:

Ripple Escola de Samba have been invited to perform at The Royal Albert Hall on Wednesday 14th October 2009.

They will be the opening act for the Primary Proms, performing in front of an audience of 8000! This is an great honour for our samba band and comes in recognition of their dedication, talent and enthusiasm. We hope that their performance will inspire many other children to enjoy participating in music.

Have you got any messages for the band? How do you feel about children from our school being invited to perform at the Royal Albert Hall? Year 5, you are going to watch the event - are you excited?

It was AMAZING! It was a once in a lifetime opportunity! It was an extravaganza! The crowd gave us an adrenaline rush. I was petrified but when we got on stage my nerves blew away. We loved showing off and poking our tongues out cos that's what we're good at! And our drums gave a good sound! It felt like we were famous already; I wish we could do it again. A sleepover at the Albert Hall would be nang! Reno & Michael Peace and hair grease and all of that...Big up!
